How is Malo’o different from other hangers and racks?
Unlike others, the Malo’o DryRack was designed to be used inside or outside for drying and holding surfing, snowboarding, camping, hunting, and fishing gear. Besides having 2 bars, which others don’t, the Malo’o gear rack can open fully and be attached to any surface via a suction cup or cinch strap.
Other hangers and racks are designed to be used inside or outside and have a limited capacity. Malo’o is the only vehicle-mounted rack with two drying bars and is padded to not scratch.
What can I hang from the Malo’o DryRack?
Use your imagination! Almost anything weighing up to 20 lbs will hang securely from the Malo’o DryRack and Fish & Game Rack. Some items that we’ve seen are wetsuits, towels, bathing suits, booties, hats, gloves, socks, pants, helmets, underwear, jackets, scarfs, backpacks, life jackets, purses, sandals, waders, fly fishing gear, waterproof backpacks, RV accessories, dry bags, guns, and tactical vests. Please see our mounting page for more ideas. Tag us @malooracks on social to share how you use yours!
What can the Malo’o DryRack hang from?
The Malo'o DryRack was designed to hang over the side view mirror of cars, trucks, vans, and even RVs. But that wasn’t good enough, we wanted you to be able to take the Malo’o car rack with all of your outdoor gear, anywhere, and now you can. Stick the Malo’o suction cup to smooth shower walls, glass, RV ceilings, windows, doors, any smooth surface where you can maintain suction. The suction cup hook was designed to hold the top of the Malo’o DryRack perfectly. Simply attach the suction cup, inside or out, and place the DryRack padded handle in the suction cup hook. Make sure the rubber padding behind the hinges is also making contact, and you’re good to go.
What about cars with automatically folding mirrors?
It is NOT recommended to be used on the side view mirror of vehicles with automatically folding mirrors. Some vehicles will sense the car rack and stop closing, while others might damage it. We suggest hanging the rack with a Malo'o suction cup or cinch strap from the top of the side window or other suitable location.
What about cars that have a curve that prevents the rack and bumpers from fully resting on the side?
While Malo'o car racks work on almost any vehicle, it may not work on everyone due to vehicle styling. When using the Malo'o racks on the side-view mirror the handle should rest behind the side mirror and the two rubber bumpers on the side of the car. If this is not possible, we recommend using a Malo'o cinch strap or Malo’o suction cup and attaching the gear rack to a different location on the vehicle. See attachment examples on the mounting page.
I have a low car and my wetsuit touches the ground, what can I do?
You can attach the DryRack to other parts of your car with the Malo'o suction cup.
My Rack is not touching the side of my car?
Although Malo'o racks fit the majority of cars, manufacturers are always changing body styles. If your car has a body curve or ridge below the side mirror and the rubber hinge bumpers won't sit flat against the side of the vehicle. A simple hack is to wrap some weatherstripping around the top of the rack where it meets the curve of the body. Alternatively, please use the Malo'o suction cup on another part of the vehicle.
The DryRack can open fully. Is it broken?
No. We made the drying rack to fully open so it could be hung from trees, poles, etc. Pull the bottom and top bars together to collapse to open position or fully close.
The tray in my Fish & Game rack is tight when I place behind bars, is that correct?
Yes, we made the back of the tray tight when placed between the back bar and the hinges. Since there is no back support on the tray when used in this position, the corners of the back of the tray fit inside on the inside of the hinges. You may pull the hinges out slightly to make sure the tray has a tight fit.
